WHY THERE IS NO TRADITION FOR DONATING IN BULGARIA AND IS THIS CHANGING?
“Donating is a matter of tradition and culture. Not only in Bulgaria but in all other ex-socialist countries there has been a period when charity organizations have been erased.
In the early 90 years of the last century some small organizations started to emerge. They used to solve local problems but with no experience. Later the massive external financing helped to build traditions. These values – charity-giving and volunteer work are to be raised at home and we all are responsible for that to happen.
At this moment the main problem is that some organizations still do not build a connection with their donors and volunteers. People just want to see whom they help, it makes it easier for them to imagine the result. Another basic problem in Bulgaria is the feeling that nothing depends on single individuals. That’s why it is important that the organizations which connect those who are in need to donors, show gratitude and give feed-back with real results. This is the way people will be better stimulated to be active.“
